A concert featuring music by Handel and his principal contemporaries from 18th-century London. Shortly after his arrival in London in 1711, Georg Friedrich Handel secured a top position in English musical life, which is not surprising given the steady stream of masterpieces that flowed from his pen: operas, oratorios, concertos, sonatas, etc.; moreover, he was an unmatched musician. This more than forty-year dazzling star, however, has overshadowed many other fascinating figures who collaborated or competed with him in London. They too have composed beautiful music. Min of Meer Minimal festival opens this year with a performance by Sander de Keere. De Keere is a radio and podcast maker at Klara (part of Belgian broadcaster VRT) and since several years also composer of minimalistic inspired music. His new album The Manual Stop will be released in October 2026. On this new album, a replica of a baroque Contius organ of Sint- Catharina church in Wondelgem (Gent) emerges as an acoustic synthesizer from pre electronic times. The manual stop brings a hommage to the craftmanship of the instrument combined with an adventurous sonic experiment. Sopranista Maayan Licht and harpsichordist Guy Maori perform dazzling Baroque arias once written for the legendary castrati, alongside virtuoso works on a Flemish Ruckers-style harpsichord. Guy Maori, Harpsichord The Ruckers harpsichord was the showpiece instrument of its age. The Ruckers family of Antwerp were the most celebrated harpsichord builders in the Low Countries, and their instruments set the standard across Europe for nearly two centuries. With two manuals and contrasting registers, instruments like these allowed players to switch quickly between different sounds, including the 'forte' and 'piano' effects found in some works by Bach. Maori plays a modern replica built in Amsterdam.

At the traditional annual Christmas concert of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, this year you can enjoy music by Purcell, Handel, Bach and others. The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1955, since when its rich history has included many notable achievements. Even after the merger with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in 1985, the ensemble lost none of its unique identity. The dynamics between the members of the orchestra are particularly striking. They rarely play under the baton of a conductor but interact with each other almost instinctively. There is a remarkable chemistry, as is apparent during every performance. Gordan Nikolić has been the leader, or ‘concertmaster’, of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra since 2004.
